Damn Random Week #18
"Well ya see, Norm, it's like this. A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers." - Cliff Clavin, Cheers.

Shut Your Stupid Face
Here's a run-down of the many types of photograph poses generally seen today, all of which I find hilarious and annoying in equal measure.
i. Duck-face - where the subject puckers their lips in a way meant to make themselves more attractive, but usually ends up achieving the complete opposite.
ii. Self-taken - where you can clearly tell the picture was taken by the subject itself.
iii. Head-tilt - where the subject in question has problems looking directly at the camera, and/or has difficulty keeping their heads up straight.
iv. Peace-sign - where the subject flashes the peace sign for no obvious reason.
When these poses are mixed together, 15 sub-sections emerge. It's like Dante's Seven Stages of Hell, but each one is much, much worse than the previous.
They are :
1. Duck-face
2. Self-taken
3. Head-tilt
4. Peace-sign
5. Self-taken + Head-tilt
6. Self-taken + Peace-sign
7. Head-tilt + Peace-sign
8. Self-taken + Head-tilt + Peace-sign
9. Duck-face + Self-taken
10. Duck-face + Head-tilt
11. Duck-face + Peace-sign
12. Duck-face + Self-taken + Head-tilt
13. Duck-face + Self-taken + Peace-sign
14. Duck-face + Head-tilt + Peace-sign
15. Duck-face + Self-taken + Head-tilt + Peace-sign
The advent of digital photography and the availability of cheap digital cameras has, I think it's safe to say, ruined the art of posing for photographs.
Then again, maybe not.
